Steamed Minced Pork is one of the simplest comfort food to make. Mum made this dish very often when I was young and I was never sick of eating it. Steamed Minced Pork is one of those dishes that come to mind whenever I run out of ideas on what to cook for dinner. I love that tender pork with the delicious sauce.
To make a really tender steamed pork, the trick is to mix in cornflour and water, a few spoonfuls at a time. This will not only add tenderness but more importantly produce lots of that delicious sauce.

INGREDIENTS
- 250 gm minced pork – marinade with:
- 1 Tbsp Tianjin preserved cabbage
- 1 Tbsp light soya sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine
- 1/2 bowl of water
- 1 Tbsp cornflour
- 1 Tbsp cooked oil
- Seasoning:
- 1 Tbsp cooked oil (preferably infused with garlic)
- 1 Tbsp light soya sauce
- Dash of white pepper
- Fried onion
METHOD
1. Marinade minced pork with preserved cabbage, light soya sauce, sesame oil, sugar and cooking wine. Mix well.
2. Add water, a couple of spoonfuls at a time, and mix well.
3. Stir in cornflour.
4. Continue to mix in water until a wet spongy texture is achieved. Adding water will add tenderness to the pork as well as produce lots of sauce. Pile the pork up high in a soup plate, do not press on the pork.
5. Add a Tbsp of cooked oil. Place in a steamer and steam for 30 mins.
6. After 30 mins, add seasoning: garlic infused oil, light soya sauce, white pepper and fried onion.
7. Cover and continue to steam for another 5 mins. It’s ready! Serve hot.
